The young woman M. had given up a lot in Germany and emigrated to Australia, where she and her partner built a new life.

After two years, however, Ms. M separated from her partner and the joint project and returned to Germany, which was very difficult for her, as she felt completely powerless to get back into life in Germany:

Arguments with her parents, no apartment, no partner, no job... this situation represented a conflict of powerlessness for her, i.e. "there is a danger coming at me from the front, to which I am completely powerless", which was active for many weeks or even months.

The associated tissue is the ectodermal mucous membranes of the old branchial arch and/or thyroid ducts, which react symptomlessly with cell degradation in the conflict-active phase.

Three months after her return to Germany, when contact with her family was re-established and she had found a new job and an apartment, this feeling of powerlessness disappeared and the SBS resolved.

A conflict-resolved phase lasting many weeks followed, of which the three weeks of PCLA were particularly bad: the branchial arch and/or thyroid ducts in her neck swelled up considerably within a day, so that her entire neck became noticeably thicker at the front and sides (diagnosis "goiter") and her windpipe was compressed. Although she could still breathe, the constricting feeling was very frightening and extremely unpleasant, as it continued for weeks without interruption.

We analyzed the situation and were able to reconstruct the underlying SBS. In many cases, with long-term special programs, the swelling in the PCLA phase lasts for a maximum of 3 weeks, so here too we suspected (and hoped) that the swelling would quickly improve significantly afterwards. That's exactly how it was, so that thanks to our knowledge of the underlying mechanisms, she was able to get through the time quite well. After that, it got better and better quickly and then disappeared completely.
