A friend and I noticed that her 9-month-old baby, who was still breastfeeding, had a reddish rash in two places: on the top left of her back and on the right side of her bottom.

Within minutes, I realized what the conflict had been. The following had happened about 2 to 3 days earlier:
The mother and I were sitting in front of the laptop watching an exciting interview while the little one slept upstairs in the room. At some point, the mother heard the baby crying and quickly ran upstairs. Captivated by the interview, she hadn't heard the baby cry straight away, she didn't know how long it had been lying awake on its own, maybe a minute, maybe longer.

The baby was used to always having its mother around. So when it woke up and was shocked to realize that mummy wasn't there, it suffered a separation conflict (DHS) - it felt separated from its mother.

The places where the baby subsequently reacted with the rash during the healing phase were exactly the two places that were touched every time the mother breastfed her baby with her left breast: the mother's right hand holds the baby's right bottom and the mother's left hand holds the baby's upper left back.

Since the conflict had obviously already been resolved, all that needed to be done was to give the child love and security. The rash subsided after about a week and disappeared completely after about two weeks.
